GETTING TO THE ALTSTADTHAUS
... by car
The nearest motorway exit (A2) is Graz Ost. You can get to the Rankengasse and the Altstadthaus from there via Liebenauer Stadion – Messe/Stadthalle – Karlauerbrücke – Lagergasse. For planning your journey from your own doorstep to ours you can use the route planner which we have set up for you further down.
The Altstadthaus lies within the so-called green parking zone. That means that there are no time limitations but all the parking spots are metered – minimum charge is €1 (for half an hour) and €11 for a whole day. The charges apply on Monday to Friday from 9am to 8pm. There are two vending machines for tickets across the road from the Altstadthaus and you can pay with coins, Maestro or credit cards. Please be aware that we do not offer private parking spots and cannot reserve any because it is a public parking zone.
... by train
Most trains to Graz arrive at the Hauptbahnhof. From there you can take the tram lines 1, 3, 6 and 7 (to Roseggerhaus) and the bus line 67 (in the direction of Zentralfriedhof) to Albert-Schweizer-Gasse. This stop is approx. 3 minutes walking distance from the Altstadthaus. For more detailed information on the bus and tram routes the Grazer Linien offer a "BusBahnBim-Auskunft" (German only).
... by plane
There are two ways to get from the airport, Graz Thalerhof, to the Altstadthaus. You can take the bus lines 630 or 631. This bus leaves directly in front of the main entrance of the airport and stops at Griesplatz. The walking distance from this stop to the Altstadthaus is approx. 5 minutes. The second option is the city train S5 from Flughafen Graz to Hauptbahnhof. More information on how to get from/to the airport here.
... by taxi
There are several cab companies in Graz that have ranks both at the airport and the main station. Rides from the airport are between €16 and €20, rides from the main station between €6 and €10. Please be aware that these are only approximate prices and that we cannot guarantee their accuracy.
GETTING AROUND IN GRAZ
... on foot
You can reach the city centre in about 10 to 15 minutes on foot. The loveliest – but slightly longer – route is via the Augarten park and the promenade along the left riverside of the Mur. To fully enjoy the atmosphere of the old town with its museum and sights, walking is certainly the best way to get around.
... with public transport
Graz offers a good network of buses and trams. By the way, we call the latter “Bim” which probably stems from the sound they make when they want to alert pedestrians or cars. Since September 2013 you can use the tram lines in the inner city for free thanks to the "Altstadt-Bim" initiative.
... by bike
If you would like to combine your city trip with a bit more sport, Graz with its many bike lanes is an ideal destination. Bicycles can be stored in the entrance hall of the Altstadthaus. But don’t fret if you cannot fit yours into your car or if you are traveling by plane or train: grazbike.at offers an easy and quick way to get one for the duration of your stay. The website is German only but if you’d like some help in reserving a bike, we are always happy to help.
